"Try Me" is the second book in the new Demon Underground series by Parker Blue. This book picks up only days after "Bite Me" ended, giving the main character, part succubus / vampire hunter Val Shapiro, no time to rest. Val finds out that some old book on magic that her father had given her are actually very valuable one of a kind books. Unfortunately, before they can be of any use to her new demon friends, they're stolen. At the same time, a group of "good" vampires are planning to announce their existence to the world. The vamps want the demons to join them and tension heats up between the two groups. Soon, both sides are being attacked and they start to blame each other. As someone who is trusted by the top vamp, Val finds herself in the middle. At the same time she dealing with her personal life: her old crush, Dan, is avoiding her and a cute Demon, Shade, wants to start a relationship and help Val control her inner lust demon.
Overall, readers who enjoyed the first book will enjoy this one too. It maintained many of "Bite Me's" good qualities: a well rounded main character and interesting supporting characters, in a basically good plot. I would like to see the supporting characters rounded out a bit more - especially concerning the romantic interests. I'm not really feeling that Val's really connecting to the guys she's involved with. The book also maintained the first book's weakness: a simplistic mystery with characters who don't seem to try to hard to solve it. I once again wanted to ask the characters "What are you doing? Ask some questions and look for some clues. Don't just wait for them to come to you."
Although I enjoyed this book, though I feel there are some weaknesses in it. However, keeping in mind that this is a YA book, I'm willing to overlook these issues as being, a least partly, due to the genre.Get more detail about Try Me.
