This was a very good book. The story is timeless, and could be set almost anytime. It is very appropriate that the story seems to extend our current history into something that is very plausible. However there are some annoying discrepencies. The current incarnation of the book is a revised version from the original authoring in the 1990's. Despite the revision, several errors in timing remain that make no sense when certain characters went to school or work with whom, etc. Plus, it seems that some concepts are outdated and never changed for the current times. An example is the habit of naming every piece of equipment to the detail when not needed, but this also dates the piece by identifying the main character having a computer that to his timeline (which is supposed to be current 2008 or so) is very advanced, but in reality it seems this wasn't accurately updated to our true computer standards.
Despite some timeline flaws, the story is very interesting and gripping. It is a good read and very educational to anyone interested in survivalism.
An added bonus is the obvious and flagrant anti-governmental diatribes littered throughout. It is an interesting study in an anti-socialist, anti-European, anti-big government stance.
Overall, it was an enjoyable read that was hard to put down at times.
