This is easily the most original novel I have read in years. It's a series of self contained short stories, each focusing on a member of the newsroom of an international newspaper. The characters include a past his prime Paris correspondent, an obituary writer who suffers personal bereavement, the hard-nosed business editor who takes up with a charming loser, and most hilariously, an aspiring Cairo stringer who is sponged off by a hardened war correspondent. It is all tied up in the most unexpected manner, as the indifferent young owner of the paper is forced to pay attention to his business. Rachman is a brilliant observer of human imperfection and in this novel he has made a virtuoso debut.Get more detail about The Imperfectionists: A Novel.
